{"id":1446,"date":"2025-03-24T21:49:09","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T21:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/?p=1446"},"modified":"2025-04-14T19:51:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T19:51:19","slug":"llamado-a-tesistas-de-postgrado","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/en\/convocatorias\/llamado-a-tesistas-de-postgrado\/","title":{"rendered":"CALL FOR POSTGRADUATE THESIS STUDENTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Millennium Research Nucleus on State Production and Use of Data on Severe Human Rights Violations -DATA JUSTA NCS2024_69<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Millennium Nucleus for Research on State Production and Use of Data on Severe Human Rights Violations (DATA JUSTA- NCS2024_69), directed by Oriana Bernasconi (Director) and Elizabeth Lira (Alternate Director), invites students enrolled in national master's programs accredited by the CNA, who are beginning their thesis process, to apply to carry out their thesis and have it approved during 2026. Those selected will join the Nucleus team as thesis students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABOUT DATA JUSTA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DATA JUSTA is a collaborative, interdisciplinary, exploratory, inductive, and comparative scientific initiative in the social sciences. The main objective is to analyze how the Chilean State produces, manages, and uses information on victims of human rights violations and severe abuses. The project focuses on examining the production and use of data on victims of human rights violations and other forms of violence within the State, assessing its impacts and implications. The study will be developed through a relational, socio-material, and multi situated ethnography of the State, focusing on three cases: a) human trafficking, b) institutional violence in a political context (2019-2020), and c) attempted femicides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project seeks to improve data systems and policies related to human rights violations and reparations for victims, in order to promote accountability, protect human rights, and contribute to peace, justice, and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Nucleus brings together Alberto Hurtado University, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Diego Portales University, Austral University of Chile, Playa Ancha University, and Atacama University. The project integrates diverse disciplines such as sociology, psychology, law, criminology, and anthropology and is situated at the intersection of critical data studies, science and technology, human rights, and public policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POSSIBLE RESEARCH TOPICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications can be submitted in any discipline. Priority will be given to projects related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/en\/investigacion\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/es\/investigacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research lines<\/a> and case studies from the Millennium Nucleus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the topics that could be addressed in thesis projects are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Infrastructure and knowledge management on victims<\/strong>: Analysis of how data on victims of human rights violations is collected and managed, and how this impacts responses and reparations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ethics, privacy and human rights in data management<\/strong>: Study of the ethical and legal implications of handling personal data of victims, with a focus on protecting their privacy and fundamental rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Evaluation of public policies and reparation models<\/strong>: Analysis of existing policies and protocols for victim assistance and reparation, evaluating their effectiveness and compliance with international standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emerging technologies and their impact on victim management<\/strong>: Research on the use of technologies (such as artificial intelligence and big data) in the collection and processing of data on victims, and their potential to improve state responses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collaboration and participation in assisting victims<\/strong>: Study of the collaboration between public institutions, non-governmental organizations and civil society, and its impact on the implementation of assistance and reparation policies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Legal reforms and international comparison<\/strong>: Research on the necessary legislative reforms to improve long-term protection for victims, comparing national and international approaches to reparation and justice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that you do not need to have a fully defined research topic before applying. This can be defined in collaboration with the Data Justa researchers during the process of agreeing to join the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CONDITIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The projects submitted will be individual. Those who join Data Justa as thesis students will have the opportunity to work with data generated by the project and participate in academic publications alongside the research team. They will also be able to apply for funding to cover expenses associated with the development of their research within the framework of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thesis must formally register a principal investigator from the Core as a supervising professor or co-supervising professor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All publications and academic contributions by the thesis student must acknowledge the support of the Millennium Nucleus Data Justa NCS2024_6, according to the established guidelines.
