{"id":1991,"date":"2026-01-28T16:39:41","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T16:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/?p=1991"},"modified":"2026-01-28T16:39:42","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T16:39:42","slug":"contar-para-existir-datos-genero-y-justicia-en-la-respuesta-estatal-al-feminicidio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/en\/noticias\/contar-para-existir-datos-genero-y-justicia-en-la-respuesta-estatal-al-feminicidio\/","title":{"rendered":"Counting to Exist: Data, Gender, and Justice in the State Response to Femi(ni)cide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the <strong>XIII Encuentro Red CTS<\/strong>held at <strong>Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n<\/strong>the researchers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/en\/miembros-del-equipo\/paola-moreno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paola Moreno<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/en\/miembros-del-equipo\/dra-oriana-bernasconi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oriana Bernasconi<\/a><\/strong> presented the paper <em>\u201cContar para existir: femicidio, feminicidio e infraestructuras de datos en la justicia de g\u00e9nero en Am\u00e9rica Latina\u201d<\/em>, as part of the panel \u201cCritical Analysis of Public Policies II.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation addressed a central question: <strong>How does the State respond when a woman is murdered, and what role do data play in that response?<\/strong> From a feminist and situated perspective, the presentation analyzed how the categories of femicide and feminicide, developed in Latin America, not only name gender-based violence, but also shape institutional infrastructures that determine which deaths are recorded, how they are counted, and which are left out of official systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-01-28-at-13.36.47-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1993\" srcset=\"https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-01-28-at-13.36.47-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-01-28-at-13.36.47-169x300.jpeg 169w, https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-01-28-at-13.36.47-7x12.jpeg 7w, https:\/\/datajusta.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-01-28-at-13.36.47.jpeg 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on a comparative analysis of legal frameworks across different countries in the region, the researchers showed that these laws operate as starting points for complex arrangements made up of legal categories, administrative records, and judicial procedures.\n\nWithin this framework, they identified different ways of understanding femicide and feminicide \u2014 as a hate crime, an expression of unequal power relations, or the culmination of a continuum of violence \u2014 each with distinct implications for State responsibility and its obligations to prevent, punish, and repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation also emphasized the <strong>data infrastructures<\/strong> as a key field of dispute in gender justice. Although States produce evidence, records, and statistics on femicide, these data do not always translate into institutional learning or transformations in public policy.
