Romina Mera Cereceda

She is a Social Worker specialized in Socio-Legal Interventions from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where she is also pursuing a Master’s in Social Work. Her academic training has focused on working with victims in contexts of rights violations, particularly in the areas of gender-based violence, sexual offenses, violations of the rights of children and adolescents, and access to justice. She has worked as a research assistant on various projects related to dignified treatment within the Chilean judiciary, migration and forced displacement, work-related stress in social services, and empathy education as a tool to promote institutional practices that better respect human rights and dignity, from a critical perspective on normative frameworks.

She is currently developing her master’s thesis, titled “Reparation as a Path: Trajectories of Human Trafficking Victims and Their Articulation with Public Policies for Rights Restitution in Chile,”, under the direction of Professor Daniela BolívarThis research, conducted within the framework of the Millennium Nucleus Data Justa, seeks to evaluate how public policies for rights restitution in Chile align with the reparation trajectories of trafficking victims, identifying tensions, challenges, and good practices from a situated perspective. The study is based on a relational, sociomaterial, and multisited ethnography of the state, combining document analysis with interviews with professionals. Through this research, the aim is to contribute to a critical understanding of reparation policies, highlighting how they do—or do not—translate into concrete practices that ensure access to justice and the restoration of victims’ rights.
