Data Justa

Ariane Carvajal C.

Ariane Carvajal is a Computer Science Engineering student at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. Her training combines technology with an interest in the social sciences, especially regarding the processing and protection of sensitive data in contexts of human rights violations.

Currently, she is developing her undergraduate thesis, titled “Evaluación de bases de datos en contextos sociales convulsionados: Buenas prácticas para el registro de víctimas durante el estallido social en Chile basado en norma ISO/IEC 27.001 y 27.002”, under the co-supervision of Andrés Tello. Her research focuses on analyzing cybersecurity practices and standards related to the design, management, and protection of databases used by state institutions to record victims in contexts of high social conflict, taking Chile’s 2019 social uprising as a case study.

The project seeks to identify the main tensions and challenges surrounding the security, interoperability, and traceability of records, proposing good practices inspired by international information security management standards, including ISO/IEC 27001 and 27002. Her work brings a computer science perspective to Data Justa’s study of how data are produced, protected, and used in contexts of serious human rights violations.
