Makarena Opazo is a final-semester Law student at Universidad Diego Portales. Her area of interest focuses on social rights, particularly those related to the LGBTIQ+ community.
She is currently developing her research project, titled “El tratamiento jurídico de la mujer transgénero en el delito de femicidio”, supervised by Proffessor Lidia Casas Barrera. The research focuses on the legal treatment of transgender women in criminal law, specifically in relation to the crime of femicide, exploring debates around its applicability in cases involving transgender women as victims. The study seeks to make visible and demonstrate the need of a greater inclusion of transgender women en law, particularly in the criminal justice system.
